Local Area

This is a rustic area part of a National Park and a great base for anyone to stay at whilst exploring Normandy. Boudet is surrounded by apple orchards and pastures full of Normandy cows. Our neighbour makes and sells cider (using our own apples!).

Boudet is moments from the Flers-Domfront veloroute or VoieVerte (a disused railway line cycle track) which forms part of an extensive cycle network. This offers an excellent and safe opportunity to get about and explore the area - you can even cycle to Mont St Michel. You can use our own bikes but if you have some of your own do bring them. We have some on site but they are better used for short local trips!

Barenton, our local village has all essential amenities, including several boulangeries and a small supermarket, is just 2 km away. The historic towns of Domfront and Mortain have much larger supermarkets (Carrefour and Intermarche) and are 12 km away.

There is an open air swimming pool at Mortain (15 min drive); horse riding is available near Barenton; bungee jumping can be found near Clecy; Golf at Clecy, Granville, Dol de Bretagne and Bagnoles de L’Orne whose golf course is closest to us. This is a beautiful 9 hole course designed by Harold Becker in 1925 and situated in the middle of the Andaine forest. It is a very pretty, reasonably flat but physical course that dominates in the “doe-ford” glade. A river meanders through the forest and often borders the fairways.

For beaches Mount St Michel is about 50 minutes from Boudet. Carolles is the nicest beach near us, 70 km away and the charming fishing town Cancale known for it's amazing oysters and mussels, with incredible seafood restaurants, is 107 km from the property. Other recommended beaches are Deauville, Houlgate and Trouville-sur-Mer.

Base de Loisirs La Ferte Mace is a 65 hectare leisure base centred around La Ferte Mace large lake which is a great alternative to a beach. It has lifeguards in July and August, a play area, volley ball, peddolos, mini golf etc.

Normandy is a beautiful part of France, seeped in history and with plentiful sights to go and visit. From the D Day landing beaches to the Bayeau tapestry the area has something to interest everyone. Children will love the charming castle of Carrouges and Chateau D’O and Le Haras du Pin, the national stud whilst adults might prefer a trip to Monet's garden (about 80km away) or the Apple and Pear museum. St Fraimbault, a village fleuries is about 20 minutes from Boudet as is Ambrieres-les-Valées, where there is an outside swimming pool, archery, mini golf and canoeing.

Wonderful place. Excellent for a big group.”
Reviewed 14 Apr 2015
"Boudet was the perfect location for our large group for my 40th Birthday celebration, we filled the 3 buildings with people and enjoyed having banquets every night. The Farmhouse has the biggest dining space as you can put an extra table at the end which we needed. It was very well equipped, I like that towels and bedding were included and they provided extra cots for our little ones which helped a lot. It was nice and warm inside and very cosy, I would say the Barn had a more cosy living room but all the units were beautiful and charming. The master bedroom is nice and private at the top. We did have to do quite a bit of driving to get to the beaches and other sights but we were ok with that and it was worth it coming back to a place that felt like home and a place to relax after a long day. Everyone was very impressed and I would totally recommend this amazing rental, the owner seemed very nice and the caretakers were available when we needed them. " April 2015

"We stayed in The Farmhouse the first week in September; we had a friend from the States visiting us and wanted to take her to France to visit the Normandy beaches and since this was a once-in-a-lifetime visit to France for her, we wanted to do the best we could. We go to France in September every year and for those of you who also like to get your annual French fix, you will appreciate how difficult it is to find somewhere that is special, well-furnished and comfortable. The Farmhouse delivered all of this and is probably the only holiday let I have ever had with matching crockery and masses of it, comfortable beds with good linen and also possibly the only let in France where I didn’t worry about using the electricity!

The Farmhouse has been beautifully restored and maintained with modern showers, kitchen, dishwasher, etc, but retaining all the charm you would expect with this type of property with two huge fireplaces, beams galore and stone floors. It is enormous and was far too big for our small party, but my goodness, it was lovely and in an idyllic rural setting. The grounds were beautiful. We didn’t quite appreciate the distance Barenton is from the Normandy beaches or Honfleur when we booked so we did have to do quite a lot of driving
